We were very excited a few weeks ago to find a toad in the Early Years Garden. The children came to find Miss Sharpe as they though they saw something under one of the logs. After lifting the log we found a toad and carried him safely to our small pond area. Many of the children believed the toad to have been one of the escaped froglets that lived in our pond towards the end of the summer. The children looked after the toad and experimented with different ways of moving like one.
This week, early years have been exploring freezing and melting by making autumn treasure ice bags. After selecting the autumn treasures they wanted to freeze, they put them in the freezer over night. The next day we looked at how the water had frozen and become hard/solid. During the day the children kept watch and noticed how the ice melted back into water.
